What is data analytics? When you are confronted with a deluge of data, not structured or even from different disparate sources, data analytics is about getting an understanding of how the users/machines/IoT devices are interacting with your app/web site/ad promotions. Analyzing data becomes a critical tool in adapting in today business environment.
There are many sources where the process of collecting/slicing and visualizing data is applied:
- · Measuring performance for large systems and adding triggers for abnormalities. Here the classic example is of a vendor whose campaign is bringing too many customers and the system is not scalable to handle them.
- · Understanding the usage of a website/app by tracking the user behavior and comparing it with the designed intent for the specific website/app
- · Creating campaigns to attract users and measuring the impact to the business
The final goal is to make sense, understand the data and create a model which will align the business resources with the business goals. Unfortunately, as with any mathematical model, the intent can derail (we recommend “The weapons of math-destruction” book). Refining the model and even changing the data analyzed is one of the solutions for “data-distorted” models.
